The Kindle

Last month I noted how books are still in its current form even though things have been evolving rapidly in the field of information technology. This might set to change with the recent introduction of Amazon’s e-book device. Apparently its display is readable even in direct sunlight, and the battery lasts up to 30 hours.

Amazon has named it Kindle, and it costs USD399. So it’s rather pricey, and I don’t know how durable or reliable it is. But I’m sure the price will go down, and the technology will improve.

The golden question is - in ten years’ time, will we be lugging around a Kindle each? Will the Kindle eventually become a computer, or will the computer also become e-book readers?

Ultimately, my hope is for this technology to reduce the prices of books in Malaysia. If I could download books from Amazon straight into my Kindle for RM10 each I’d be quite happy.
