Stationery

I never thought there’d be anyone who appreciates stationery like I do. But the author of Rands In Repose apparently does. And so do hundreds of his readers.

Like the Rands In Repose guy, I settled for the Pilot G-2. I prefer the 1.0 mm nib however. It isn’t that great but there just isn’t anything better in the market. As a perfectionist I don’t like how the rubber grip isn’t joined together properly; there’ll always be some pop or gnarl.

Currently I’m using the Lamy Safari (medium nib). It’s very robust - I’ve dropped it a few times and my one-year-old son has in fact manhandled infanthandled it with the cap off (getting ink all over his hands in the process) but with nary an ill effect. It hasn’t ever leaked and it goes well with jeans and T-shirts.

On a lark I Googled “lamy safari” and found an in-depth review of it. The reviewer thinks it’s a bit scratchy … and I find that he’s right. I didn’t notice it before. So now I don’t enjoy using my Lamy as much as I used to. D’oh!
