Spot the Programmer

Ras, Zeff and I were at the Sports Arena during lunchtime. (It’s called Sports Arena but people go there for lunch). To liven things up, I said to Zeff, “Let’s play a guessing game - spot the programmer.”

Then I saw a nerdy-looking guy at the drinks counter. “OK, what do you think,” I asked Zeff, “is that guy a programmer?”

Zeff immediately shook his head.

“Why not?” I asked, rather taken aback by his confidence.

“Because,” Zeff replied, “he’s wearing ordinary shoes. Programmers don’t wear ordinary shoes.”

I was completely blown away by that answer. But he’s right! I don’t know of any programmer who wears proper working shoes, the shiny type with heels. It’s either loafers, sneakers or sandals. The company might institute some sort of formal dress code, but programmers will never wear regular shoes.

Special case: Bill Gates. Regular shoes, but worn out.
