On Blogging

Yesterday was an interesting day for me blog-wise. First Patrick McKenzie mentioned me in his blog in response to my saying that he is no longer posting daily. Then my longtime friend Azman H asked me - independent of Patrick’s response - how come I haven’t posted anything these past few days.

Actually this blog started out as a technical reference for my own use - it was originally meant to be an online notepad for solutions to programming/computing problems I come across. The blog format just seemed sort of handy. Then I allowed search engines to index my pages; it would be great if other people could benefit from my experience. After that my blog somehow became a blog along the way.

Seth Godin says he’ll write his blog “even if no one read it”. He’s a thinker and he uses his blog as a medium with which to nurture thoughts and ideas. The crucial difference between a traditional journal and a blog is that, with the latter, someone out there might actually be reading what you write. So there’s an incentive to do it well lest you look like a rambling idiot.
