MicroISV on a Shoestring Reader

When Patrick McKenzie started his MicroISV business somewhere in the middle of 2006, he also set up a blog detailing every step of his journey. Word spread quickly amongst the fledgling uISV community. Readers who were lucky enough to join Patrick from the beginning were able to share his experience in real-time as he developed his product, created a website, chose a payment gateway, finetuned his AdWords, and processed the (very few) refunds …

Patrick broke even very quickly and he’s now made enough money to have to pay tax on it. That, however, is beside the point. More important than the success of his product is the success of his blog. (It doesn’t hurt that Patrick is a witty and engaging writer). I wouldn’t be surprised if a whole horde of programmers become uISVs this year, all citing Patrick as their single most important source of inspiration …

Understandably, Patrick’s blog is best read in chronological order. I wanted a friend of mine to do exactly that, but I struggled to find a link to Patrick’s first post. On a whim, I created a simple “reader” that can “page” through Patrick’s blog, and gave my friend the link to my reader instead. I decided to let Patrick know in case of copyright issues.

Imagine my surprise when my name appeared in Patrick’s next post! I couldn’t stop grinning to myself the whole day (inwardly, in case my colleagues think I’m crazier than they already think I am). Anyway, I hope that the MicroISV on a Shoestring Reader does come in useful for the uISV community as it did for my friend.

Rizal - Nice going! I’ll be mentioning it at http://mymicroisv.com but you should send a email to Gavin Bowman at the microISV Digest as well.
