Good Guys Bad Guys
In action movies there are the good guys and the bad guys. The bad guys do bad things and the good guys ultimately succeed in stopping them. The story is told in such a way that the audience will root for the good guys and look forward to the bad guys getting their just desserts. Occasionally the bad guys are the heroes; but then the good guys are either snobbishly rich or large soulless corporations and no one gets hurt.
I wonder whether snatch thieves, robbers and murderers feel guilty when they watch these shows. I’m sure they’re aware that they’re the real bad guys. But they certainly wouldn’t enjoy seeing the bad guys getting what they deserve. So maybe they tune out the underlying moral message and cut to the chase scenes.
I could imagine the following conversation whilst watching Die Hard 4.0:
Snatch Thief #1: John McClane is the man!
Snatch Thief #2: He’s a cop, you idiot. Shut up.
