Global CIO Visit

Our Global CIO came to visit us for two days. I like his style: effusive, forthright, and most of all, uncomplicated. During the general Q&A session one of my colleagues asked him what it takes to be the CIO of a billion-dollar company. His immediate answer was, “no sleep.”

He also listed the following attributes:

  • decisiveness and the ability to make tough decisions
  • a willingness to sacrifice one’s personal life
  • the wherewithal to step into “real ugly situations” and fix them

On the subtopic of managing one’s career, he also mentioned the importance of having “brand names” in one’s resume.

All in all, he certainly lived up to the image of the straight-talking high-flying American manager - despite the fact that he’s distinctly Eastern European in origin.
